We stayed a week here, and used it as a base to explore Amsterdam and the surrounding area. Excellent tram service to and from the hotel, only a short stroll to the subway. Rooms were good, bed was comfy, everything was clean. Staff were very helpful. Use a phone as you enter hotel and room with a QR code, much more secure than room keys. Wonderful little breakfast restaurant 5 yards/metres from hotel. Went there most mornings. Across the road is also an excellent restaurant attached to the zoo and aviary. Free to go sit and watch the birds and the flamingoes. Had supper at the Warsteiner Bar across the road on the corner, a couple times or stopped in for a drink. Great atmosphere. Took tram downtown a couple days, but walked downtown/Central Station area most days.

I would not stay here again. Reviews mentioned the QRCode entry issue. We were never able to get the QRCode to work. Luckily there were staff people about. My group of friends booked 4 rooms. The carpets were stained and appeared filthy in all the rooms. In my room the bedroom and bathroom were down a steep spiral staircase to a below ground room. I would never have booked it if I had known. It would have been difficult to get out of in an emergency. I did not sleep well as a consequence. I never checked my ground floor window to see if it was locked until my friends told me that their windows would not lock. We had to wrestle my window to get the rod down and it was still loose. When reviewers said the rooms are dark they are not kidding. The walls and ceiling are a brown burgundy with black painted woodwork. We spent a bit of time coming up with a redecorating scheme. On the plus side it was quiet. The beds were comfortable, the bathrooms were modern, there was lots of hot water, there were housecoat and slippers. The kitchenettes were well appointed and even have mini dishwashers. The hotel has an elevator.

Amsterdam is a lovely city, but I won't be staying at de Jonker again unfortunately. The check-in process was insane. We arrived at 8:00am after 24 hours of travelling and were greeted by probably the rudest hotel staff member I've come across. He told us in no uncertain terms to leave and not come back until 3:00pm and refused to hold our luggage for us, leaving us carrying our suitcases around Amsterdam for almost seven hours which was a major pain. We later found out that they have a partner hotel for storing luggage, but the receptionist didn't let us know about that. We were told we would be sent a QR code by 3:00pm which would be used as the key to the front door of the hotel and the room. It didn't come so we were left cold on the street waiting to be let into the hotel. A friendlier receptionist eventually let us in manually. Our QR code was not sent to us until almost 7:00pm. So, we had no way to enter the hotel or our room until then. It was a very disappointing experience. Otherwise, the location is pretty good. There's a tram stop virtually at the hotel and takes only 10 or so minutes to get to Dam Square. The rooms were nice and modern. Our room was next to the front door and, due to the paper-thin walls, we heard people coming and going all night.

Hi, I am unsatisfied with the stay. You claim to be 3 star hotel yet it felt like a motel. The carpet was due replacing many years ago, walls inside the room are all chipped and dirty, the bed was absolutely horrible and not comfortable; it was in fact 2 single beds fused together with a 10cm mattress. The kettle had no filter and a massive limescale build up. Embarrassing!! It is absolutely disrespectful to provide a room in such a horrible conditions to public. You should be ashamed of it! Definitely DO NOT RECOMMEND

Imagine arriving at a hotel and the man in charge stands blocking the doorway and says we can’t come in. I had read the tripadvisor reviews and realised there might be trouble so I had taken the precaution of asking the management if they would be so kind as to allow us to check in 30 mins early as we had a concert to go to at 3pm. But I and my friend (in his 70’s and walking with a stick) were told we must wait on the pavement for 30 minutes. I pointed out our waiting taxi (meter ticking) and read out the email I had got from the management thank goodness. He grudgingly allowed us inside. He had not even bothered to see if our rooms were ready and they were. So far so horrible. A QR key code was promised by email so we could enter at night. As the afternoon and evening wore on and promised QR code did not arrive I refused to give him the pleasure of a chase up from me. Eventually QR code did arrive. We arrived back at hotel after 11pm and the QR code didn’t work. I buzzed the doorbell a few times and eventually there was a voice but we couldnt tell if the voice came from the hotel or a distant call centre. He didn’t want to let us in but in the end did come and open the door. This is one of the most unpleasant hotels I have ever stayed at.
